Identifying people and describing them in French

English uses “he is a teacher,” but French usually drops the article after il est or elle est when naming an unmodified profession: “Il est professeur.” Use c’est with a noun phrase, including a profession with an article and adjective, and ce sont for plural noun phrases. To describe a person with an adjective, use il est or elle est; to comment on a situation, use c’est with an evaluative word: “C’est bien.” Here bien is an adverb; bon in “C’est un bon professeur” is an adjective.
