Give, take and use verbs in Brazilian Portuguese

Brazilian Portuguese verb endings change with the subject: compare eu dou with você dá and eu faço with você faz; o senhor and a gente take the same forms as você. English get can mean pegar, comprar, ganhar or receber, depending on the situation. Here, gastar describes spending money and passar describes spending time at the park, though gastar can also describe spending time. O senhor respectfully addresses a man, while você is common in everyday situations; a gente, pra and “Sim, eu guardo ela nesta caixa” are conversational, even in examples labelled formal.
