Shopping and exchanging items in Brazilian Portuguese

Shopping and exchanging items in Brazilian Portuguese

Learn to ask prices, find the right size, buy clothes and explain why you need an exchange. English uses “you” across situations; Brazilian Portuguese uses o senhor for respectful address to a man, a senhora to a woman, and você in everyday conversation. Use the polite examples for more respectful service encounters and the informal examples for relaxed exchanges; a gente tem is a conversational way to say “we have,” alongside temos. Unlike English, Portuguese gives nouns grammatical gender, so “the blue one” can be o azul or a azul depending on the item.
