Supporting a point of view in Brazilian Portuguese

Supporting a point of view in Brazilian Portuguese

Build your argument with an opinion, two reasons joined by porque and e, a concrete example introduced by por exemplo, and a conclusion with no geral, meaning “overall.” Unlike English “although,” embora takes the subjunctive in these examples: “Embora eu apoie” means “although I support,” and “embora ainda ache” means “although I still think”; acknowledging another view does not mean abandoning yours. Use no entanto to introduce a contrasting response or place it between commas within the sentence, much like English “however.” The formal discussion suits a meeting or public discussion; acredito que sounds more considered, while acho que and a gente are more conversational, and a gente takes a singular verb, as in “a gente precisa.”
