英語の色と形

英語で色と形の名前を覚えて、物を色や形で説明する言い方を学びます。日本語では「赤い車」と「緑の車」のように色によって言い方が変わりますが、英語の色の言葉は red も green もいつも同じ形です。「何色ですか」は What color is it?、答えは It's blue. のように、主語の it を入れて言います。

英語の色の言葉は形が変わらない

英語の色の言葉は、どんなときも形が変わりません。日本語では「赤い車」「赤くて」と形が変わったり、「緑の車」のように「の」が要ったりしますが、英語は a white car、a green car のように名詞の前にそのまま置くだけです。名詞がふたつ以上でも色はそのままで、blue eyes、black shoes と言います（blues とはなりません）。

「〜は…色です」と言うときは、is や are のあとに色を置きます：The walls are white. 主語が複数なら are になりますが、white の形は変わりません。
