Comparar livros e escolher em inglês

Nesta aula, você vai comparar livros usando tamanho, preço e utilidade. Em inglês, adjetivos curtos costumam receber -er, useful usa more, e good muda para better e best.

A palavra useful

Livros, cores, tamanhos e preços

Comparações com adjetivos curtos

Subject be short adjective + -er than comparison noun phrase.

Comparações com more useful

Subject be more adjective than comparison noun phrase.

Better e the best

Para muitos adjetivos curtos, acrescente -er para comparar duas coisas e use than para dizer “que”: “This book is bigger than that book.” Em português, usamos “maior que”; em inglês, bigger já combina a ideia de “mais” com o adjetivo big.

Com useful, use more antes do adjetivo: “The red book is more useful than the green book.” Better é a forma comparativa irregular de good; para escolher o melhor entre as opções, use the best: “The red book is the best.”

Resumo das formas de comparar

Use -er com adjetivos curtos e more antes de useful; than apresenta a outra opção: “The red book is cheaper than the blue book.” Bigger significa “maior” ao comparar duas opções: “This book is bigger than that book.” Better é a forma comparativa de good; the best indica a melhor opção: “The red book is the best.” “The red book is more useful than the green book” significa “O livro vermelho é mais útil que o verde.”
