Voz passiva em inglês: is made, was delivered e by
Para descrever um objeto, você diz “It's small.” ou “The table is big.”: primeiro a coisa, depois be. O passado de is é was: “Was it good?”, “Yes, it was.” E First, Then e Finally ordenam passos: “First, close the door.”, “Then turn it on.”, “Finally, wait a minute.”
It's small.
The table is big.
Was it good?
Yes, it was.
First, close the door.
Then turn it on.
Finally, wait a minute.
Palavras novas
Very good é muito bom, who é quem, this morning é hoje de manhã, e every morning é toda manhã. Repare nos dois começos: “No, it's made by a small bakery.” e “Yes, it was delivered this morning.” começam pelo pão, que é it; “The baker delivers it every morning.” começa por quem faz.
- A
This bread is very good. Is it made here?
- B
No, it's made by a small bakery.
- A
Was it delivered today?
- B
Yes, it was delivered this morning.
- A
Who delivers it?
- B
The baker delivers it every morning.
Primeiro quem faz: make, deliver e sell
The baker makes the bread.”, “A small bakery makes this bread.”, “The shop sells the bread.” No passado, fica sem -s: “The baker delivered the bread.”
The baker / A small bakery / The shop makes / delivers / sells / delivered the bread / this bread.
The baker makes the bread.
A small bakery makes this bread.
The shop sells the bread.
The baker delivered the bread.
Is made: o pão primeiro
Para falar do objeto, comece por ele e use is + made: “This bread is made here.” A ordem é a de “It's small.”, mas agora a frase diz o que acontece com o pão, não como ele é. Em “It's made in a small bakery.”, 's é is, e in diz o lugar. Para dizer quem faz, use by: “This bread is made by a small bakery.”, “The bread is made by the baker.” Essa é a voz passiva.
A negação é a de be: “It isn't made here.”
This bread / It is made here / in a small bakery / by a small bakery.
This bread is made here.
It's made in a small bakery.
This bread is made by a small bakery.
The bread is made by the baker.
It isn't made here.
Was delivered: um momento passado
Para um fato passado, troque is por was: “The bread was delivered this morning.”, “It was delivered at seven.” É o “foi entregue” do português. By funciona do mesmo jeito: “The bread was delivered by the baker.” A negação é wasn't: “It wasn't delivered today.”
The bread / It was delivered this morning / at seven / by the baker.
The bread was delivered this morning.
It was delivered at seven.
The bread was delivered by the baker.
It wasn't delivered today.
Is ou was: be mostra o tempo
Com make, deliver e sell, a forma depois de be é igual à do passado: made, delivered, sold. “The bread is delivered every morning.” diz o que acontece normalmente; “The bread was delivered this morning.” diz o que aconteceu uma vez. O mesmo vale para “This bread is made here.” e “This bread was made this morning.”
Nestas frases, não tire be: diga “This bread is made here.”, não This bread made here. Como bread está no singular, aqui só aparecem is e was; com um sujeito no plural, use are e were.
The bread is delivered every morning.
The bread was delivered this morning.
This bread is made here.
This bread was made this morning.
O mesmo fato, dois começos
“A small bakery makes this bread.” e “This bread is made by a small bakery.” contam o mesmo fato. Para passar de uma à outra, o pão vai para o começo, o verbo vira is ou was + made ou delivered, e quem faz vai para depois de by; o -s de makes some, porque agora quem concorda com o sujeito é is. No passado, é igual: “The baker delivered the bread.” vira “The bread was delivered by the baker.”
A escolha depende do foco. Se quem faz é a novidade, essa informação pode ir para o fim, com by: “No, it's made by a small bakery.”; depois de uma pergunta com who, a forma ativa também é natural: “The baker delivers it every morning.” Se o que importa é o resultado, ou se quem fez não interessa, deixe by de fora: “Yes, it was delivered this morning.”
A small bakery makes this bread.
This bread is made by a small bakery.
The baker delivered the bread.
The bread was delivered by the baker.
No, it's made by a small bakery.
The baker delivers it every morning.
Yes, it was delivered this morning.
Perguntar sobre o processo
Nas perguntas, is ou was vem antes do objeto: “Is it made here?”, “Was it delivered today?” Where e When abrem a frase, e made ou delivered fica no fim: “Where is this bread made?”, “When was it delivered?” Como who é o sujeito, não entra do, e o verbo mantém o -s: “Who makes this bread?”, “Who delivers it?”
Where / When is / was this bread / it made / delivered?
Is it made here?
Was it delivered today?
Where is this bread made?
When was it delivered?
Who makes this bread?
Who delivers it?
Na segunda e na terceira, it retoma the bread: “Then it's delivered to the shop.”, “Finally, it's sold in the shop.” To the shop diz para onde, e in the shop diz onde.
Isso descreve o que acontece normalmente. Para contar a história de um pão de hoje, use was: “This bread was made this morning.”, “Then it was delivered to the shop.”
First, / Then / Finally, the bread / it is made in a small bakery / is delivered to the shop / is sold in the shop.
First, the bread is made in a small bakery.
Then it's delivered to the shop.
Finally, it's sold in the shop.
This bread was made this morning.
Then it was delivered to the shop.
“It has been delivered.” diz que a entrega já aconteceu. “It will be delivered tomorrow.” fala do futuro. Por enquanto, basta reconhecer essas duas; para falar, fique com is e was.
It has been delivered.
It will be delivered tomorrow.
São três perguntas: “Where is this bread made?”, “Who makes this bread?” e “When was it delivered?”
Where is this bread made?
It's made in a small bakery.
Who makes this bread?
This bread is made by a small bakery.
When was it delivered?
It was delivered at seven.
First, the bread is made in a small bakery.
Then it's delivered to the shop.
Finally, it's sold in the shop.
Is + made ou delivered diz o que acontece normalmente, was + made ou delivered diz o que aconteceu, e by acrescenta quem faz. Sem by, o foco fica no resultado.
