I'll have finished… by So we've agreed What I mean is that… This recommendation has one limitation This is my own suggestion
The main street was closed. As a result, the bread arrived late.
I'll have finished the report by Friday.
The paper reports that 31 of the 40 shops had more customers.
The association claims that every shop had more customers.
Monday is fine, provided that the price doesn't change.
So we've agreed on the price, but not on the date.
What I mean is that the plan needs more time.
This recommendation has one limitation: we only have visitor figures for one month.
This is my own suggestion, not Marco's.
wouldn't be ready until December
Our school has an empty room on the ground floor.
The first proposal is a quiet reading room.
According to the company, the reading room would cost eight thousand euros and would be ready by September.
The second proposal is a kitchen for cooking lessons.
According to the company, the kitchen would cost fifteen thousand euros and wouldn't be ready until December.
The survey reports that 70 of the 120 families who answered want a reading room.
The other 50 want a kitchen.
“Well, the reading room is a nice idea, but…” リタは推測せず、“Sorry, do you mean that you prefer the kitchen?” What I mean is that…(つまり…
- A
We have to decide by Friday. Which proposal do you prefer?
- B
Well, the reading room is a nice idea, but…
- A
Sorry, do you mean that you prefer the kitchen?
- B
Yes. What I mean is that the students would learn something new.
- A
The reading room would cost eight thousand euros, whereas the kitchen would cost fifteen thousand.
- B
Why would the kitchen cost so much more?
- A
It would need new water pipes. As a result, it wouldn't be ready until December.
- B
And the reading room?
- A
The company will have finished it by September.
“…whereas the kitchen would cost fifteen thousand.”(調理室は一万五千です)
one option would a fact, whereas the other option would / wouldn't a fact on the same point.
The reading room would cost eight thousand euros, whereas the kitchen would cost fifteen thousand.
The reading room would be ready by September, whereas the kitchen wouldn't be ready until December.
due to the new water pipes in order to は目的を表します。
The kitchen would cost more due to the new water pipes.
We have to decide by Friday in order to have the room ready by September.
The company will have finished it by September.
The company will be working in the room all summer.
In my view, your choice is the better choice because your reason.
In my view, the reading room is the better choice because it would be ready by September.
In my view, the kitchen is the better choice because the students would learn something new.
“On the other hand, the survey doesn't tell us what the students want.”(他方では、調査からは生徒の希望はわかりません)限界を認めると、反対側も見ていることが伝わります。 d は would の短い形で、I'd still choose は「それでも私なら選ぶ」という意味です。What matters is that…
The survey reports that 70 of the 120 families who answered want a reading room.
On the other hand, the survey doesn't tell us what the students want.
Nevertheless, I'd still choose the reading room because the students could use it from September.
What matters is that the students can use the room from September.
the figures は会社の数字、by then は「それまでに」です。 “Have we?”
- B
But the town library is only five minutes away. Why do we need a reading room?
- A
I see what you mean, but many students can't go there after school.
- B
OK, but the company claims that the students would use the kitchen every day.
- A
Does it give any evidence for that claim?
- B
No, it doesn't. All right, I can accept the reading room, provided that we discuss the kitchen again in January.
- A
Fine, as long as the company sends us the figures by then.
- B
So we've agreed on the reading room, provided that we discuss the kitchen again in January.
- A
Have we? Helen wasn't at the meeting.
- B
You're right. I'll write to her today.
I see what you mean は相手の見方を、That's true は事実を認める言い方です。 “Does it give any evidence for that claim?”(その主張の証拠を示していますか)
I see what you mean / That's true, but your answer.
I see what you mean, but many students can't go there after school.
That's true, but the library closes at five.
provided that と as long as のあとでは、未来の話でも動詞は現在形です。we discuss、it doesn't cost
I can accept the other option, provided that / as long as your condition.
I can accept the reading room, provided that we discuss the kitchen again in January.
I can accept the kitchen, as long as it doesn't cost more than fifteen thousand euros.
here's where we are
Hi Helen, you weren't at the meeting, so here's where we are.
We compared two proposals for the empty room: a reading room and a kitchen.
Rita and I have agreed on the reading room, provided that we discuss the kitchen again in January.
Rita also wants the company to send us the figures by then.
The survey reports that 70 of the 120 families who answered want a reading room, but it doesn't tell us what the students want.
The company claims that the students would use the kitchen every day, but it gives no evidence for that claim.
We haven't agreed on the kitchen yet.
I still prefer the kitchen, but that's only my opinion.
If we decide by Friday, the company will have finished the reading room by September.
What do you think?
Everyone agreed on the reading room.
The students would use the kitchen every day.
We've chosen the reading room.
What do you mean by…?
The kitchen would need proper ventilation and a fire door.
The reading room would need soundproofing.
What do you mean by “ventilation”?
It means a way of bringing fresh air into a room.
The first company would finish by September, whereas the second company wouldn't finish until December.
In my view, the first company is the better choice because it would finish by September.
I see what you mean, but it would cost more.
I can accept the first company, provided that the price doesn't change.
Rita and I have agreed on the first company, provided that the price doesn't change.
